Larry Bell/Jeppe Hein
Texte Vittoria Biasi

Larry Bell/Jeppe Hein
Text By Vittoria Biasi

The young Danish artist Jeppe Hein proposes a dialogue/exhibition with Californian leader of minimal art Larry Bell,  his first time in Templon Gallery. These two artists are distinguished by the study of the three-dimensional perception secret. They prefer the connection with the faultless geometry of a cube. Jeppe Hein enriched his work into an aesthetical philology; he proposes two luminescent pipes in action within the mirrors. In his works  the minimal art (it means rhythm, repetition, light refraction) achieves unpredictable environmental solutions. The exhibition  is a dialogue about their artistic path. Jeppe Hein belongs to a younger generation of artists with embodied minimal art codes to better mess them up. His installations and spare geometric objects use minimal language to propose interactive mechanisms. His works combine a meditation about the architecture “the relational aesthetics” and also the larger meaning of “environment”. It is unforgetable the short-lived sculpture “Space in Action/Action in space” shown either during the Biennale of Venice (2003) and Villa Manin ‘s park (2004) and the last edition  of  Art Basel “Unlimited Art “.

The jets of water surfacing a platform produce temporary rooms that attract the audience’s attention with plays and ethereal architectures. In Templon’s Jeppe Hein takes a series of L.B.’s cubes as his starting point to contend his own latest playful and provocative works.

Larry Bell has been projecting his works by cube suspension in order to collect informations beyond the evidence since 1960.

Now aged over 70 y.o. Larry Bell explores the light and its perception within the group Light and Space along with James Turrell, John McCracken, Peter Alexander, Robert Irwin, Doug Wheeler, Maria Nordman, DeWain San Valentino, Eric Orr since its origins. The artist is considered the key figure of U.S. minimal art together with contemporary Donald Judd. Sol Lewitt, Dan Flavin. His sculptures celebrated for geometry and thinly iridescent surfaces disbelieve the connection with the space. He creates ambiguous objects using the glass as a privileged material – volumes and surfaces sometime transparent and opaque. He is fascinated by the structure of cube that in his art is a role playing dissolving the boundaries between paintings and sculpture.
