Pavilion of Art & Design London: Details Announced

With the 4th edition of Pavilion of Art & Design London, organisers Patrick Perrin and Stéphane Custot achieve the ultimate blend of excellence, connoisseurship and sophistication. Fifty exceptional international dealers from London, Milan, Geneva, Barcelona, Brussels, Zurich, Paris, Cologne and New York will gather on Berkeley Square from 13 to 17 October to present a historical panorama of the most covetable and iconic pieces from 1860 to the present day in the fields of Modern Art, Design, Decorative Arts, Photography and Tribal Art. Considered Frieze week’s most exclusive rendez-vous, PAD London is conceived with meticulous care to meet the expectations of the finest collecting audience.

Notable newcomers add to the selection of returning design and decorative arts exhibitors. Paris-based contemporary glass specialist Clara Scremini makes a strong first appearance with a solo show of Czech glass master František Vizner, while the long-awaited participation of Cristina Grajales (USA) and Gabrielle Ammann (Germany) invigorates the fair with striking contemporary design by a variety of international artists. French Art Deco and 20th Century American furniture are exhibited at Willy Huybrechts (France) and Lamberty Antiques (UK) respectively, while interiors specialist Chahan (France) brings the definitive touch of elegance with objects by American designer Tony Duquette. The prestigious Entwistle Gallery (UK & France) launches the new genre of Tribal Art at the fair, and Sladmore Gallery (UK) introduces 19th and 20th Century life-size bronzes and animalia.

In the realm of visual art, classic contemporary paintings star at Stellan Holm (USA) and The Mayor Gallery (UK).
Modern British Art makes a stronger appearance with the participation of Robin Katz Fine Art (UK) and Bernard Jacobson Gallery (UK). Photography expands with the participation of Tim Jefferies’ Hamiltons Gallery (UK), joining Michael Hoppen (UK) in bringing the rarest prints available on the market. Modern painting masterpieces are presented at Galerie Gmurzynska (Switzerland), Thomas Gibson (UK) and Simon Dickinson (UK), all new exhibitors at PAD London.
Contemporary design galleries returning to the fair include Todd Merrill (USA), staging dramatic woodwork furniture by American artists Michael Coffey and Jack Rogers Hopkins; Carpenters Workshop Gallery (UK), introducing the latest in interactive and cutting-edge design; Friedman Benda (USA), featuring monumental woodworks by Ai Weiwei as well as contemporary paintings; Pierre Passebon’s Galerie du Passage (France), unveiling brand new furniture by Guy de Rougemont, and fashionable Perimeter Editions (France) with iridescent settees and sofas from Zaha Hadid. Iconic 20th Century and Contemporary design feature at Rapin-Müllendorff (UK), Rossella Colombari (Italy), Edizioni Galleria Colombari (Italy), Jacques Lacoste (France), Anne Autegarden (Belgium), Galerie Downtown-François Laffanour (France), and Gordon Watson (UK).

Alongside Adrian Sassoon, the UK’s most respected dealer in contemporary ceramic, glass and metalwork, Jean-David Botella (France) showcases a selection of sumptuous Art Deco objects. Exquisite post-war and contemporary artist-made jewellery also features at London galleries 21st Century Jewels, Didier Antiques and Louisa Guinness.

Some of the most exceptional works of Modern Art, rarely displayed in the UK, are available from Ben Brown (UK), Hopkins Custot Gallery (UK), Faggionato Fine Art (UK), Connaught Brown (UK), David Grob (UK), E&R Cyzer Art (UK), Espace Nelombos (Switzerland), Galerie Vedovi (Belgium), Lefèvre Fine Art (UK), Manuel Barbié (Spain), Osborne Samuel (UK), Richard Nagy (UK) and Van de Weghe (USA).

The Moët Hennessy-PAD London Prize continues to be a significant moment at the fair, sponsoring the donation of a piece of Design or Decorative Art to the Victoria & Albert Museum. A prestigious judging panel, chaired by architect and designer Nigel Coates, and comprised of prominent figures in the fields of art, fashion, culture, communication and business, will select the winning piece, as well as nominate the artworks and galleries for the awards of Best Stand and Best Object.

Highlights at PAD London culminate with a stimulating project conceived by curators Janice Blackburn and Nigel Coates, aimed at supporting young design talents. Drawing from the departments of Architecture, Ceramics, Glass and Design Products at the Royal College of Art, the curators have selected some twenty pieces from this year’s Graduate Show to be exhibited at the fair and presented to a select audience for the first time. Fifteen percent of the profits generated from the sale of these works will go towards to the RCA Student Fine Art Award Fund.
