From May 24 on and till July 22 this year, for the Project Artists in Residence, Carola Bonfili, Graham Hudson, Luigi Presicce and Ishmael Randall Weeks will show their works and the thoughts on which they have operated inside the Macro’s museum rooms.
The Manager Mr. Bartolomeo Pietromarchi, sharing the idea of museum as a place of artistic production introduced by Luca Massimo Barbero, preferred a programme of cultural diffusion by the project Artists in residence. The residence is an important opportunity for the cultural growth: it allows to meditate on languages, on problems during a long period of time, meaningful confrontation with different cultural visions. The rooms on the second floor of the Macro have been transformed into a hothouse where four artists, two Italians and two foreigners, work on a project during a period of four months.
For the next residence, during August – November 2012, the jury made up by Chiara Parisi, responsible for the cultural programmes of La Monnaie in Paris; Alessandro Rabottini curator at large GAMec – Contemporary Art Gallery in Bergamo; Bartolomeo Pietromarchi Director and Manager of MACRO; Maria Alicata, Macro’s Cultural Committee, voted as winner of the Artists in residence, International notice of a competitive exam, Julieta Aranda (Mexico 1973, she lives and works between Berlin and New York); Iwa K (Iraq 1975, she lives and works in Berlin); Francesca Grilli (Bologna 1976, she lives and works in Amsterdam); Giovanni Giaretta (Padua 1983, he lives and works in Venice).
For residence during the period February-May 2013 have been selected the artists Katarina Seda (Czech Republic 1977, she lives and works at Brno); Brian Bress (USA 1975, he lives and works in Los Angeles); Luca Trevisani (Verona 1979, he lives and works in Berlin); Riccardo Giacconi (San Severino Marche 1985, he lives and works at Poitiers, France).
The artists in residence (May 24-July 22, 2012) Carola Bonfili, Graham Hudson, Luigi Presicce, Ishmael Randall Weeks follow different languages, distant one another and in the same time dedicated to dialogue with the feeling of a region.
Carola Bonfili collaborated on a project revolved around a drawing together with Valerio Mannucci who is the publishing director of Nero. Her study presented an installation that reminding “Dialogo nel buio” (2005) [Dialogue in the dark] submit to a powerful experience of a path in the absolute darkness, in the exclusive relation with perception of her own unexplored physicalness.
Graham Hudson built inside his study another study that accepts, classifies, disposes materials picked in towns which will be analysed and it contains a system of weakness and uncertainty that connotes some aspect of contemporaneity. The artist looks into the urban panorama practically, over which he transfers the analytical method of art. In such a way a likely scenario of the connection art/science is opened. Even Ishmael Randall Weeks works on a feasibility of study with the project Parquet. His attention is devoted to the daily space which is formed by landscapes, architectures, degradation, by what is in decline because of unequal reasons. The artist with a work, even manual, enter into a part of world living on the fringes of society and he recycles it by attracting its aesthetics and a law in order to upset the values.
The farthermost sense of art, of analysis, is addressed by Luigi Presicce, to understand the symbols and gestural expressiveness contained in some histories or in some signs. The artist accomplishes two particular actions. He puts the vision, the work (performance), in a dimension of rituality: only two viewers can be spectators, even following a thought of human connection as per Grotowski’s; the symbols are elaborated with a language suggesting the inner travel in search for the substance of signs. The important aspect to underline is that for the project Artists in residence, the four artists invited other artists with whom they have created group team, going beyond even the centrality of their own individuality. This is a proof of an integration between art and territory, where the concept of social art takes on vibrant life. The Macro becomes the container of facts and not of works!!!
Very beautiful in such a sense the work of Bros, Sten and Lex. The Street Artists step in on the Museum’s terrace and on the fountain of the terrace which overhangs its auditorium. The Milanese Street Artist Bros, in cooperation with the Galleria Edieuropa at Rome and the Foundation Studio Fabio Mauri, Association for Art The Experiment of world, realized a particular collage of translucent films portraying in such a way the hurricane “Andrea” on large scale, seen through the sacredness and loveliness of polychromic glass from the auditorium.

Dal 24 maggio al 22 luglio 2012, Carola Bonfili, Graham Hudson, Luigi Presicce e Ishmael Randall Weeks esporranno l’opera e il pensiero su cui hanno lavorato all’interno degli spazi museali del Macro, per il progetto Artisti in Residenza.
Il Direttore Bartolomeo Pietromarchi, condividendo l’idea del museo come luogo di produzione artistica avviata da Luca Massimo Barbero, ha privilegiato un programma di diffusione culturale con il progetto Artisti in residenza. La residenza è un’importante opportunità per la crescita artistica: consente la riflessione sui linguaggi, sulle problematiche in un segmento di tempo lungo al confronto costruttivo con differenti visioni culturali. Gli spazi del secondo piano del Macro sono stati trasformati in una fucina in cui quattro artisti, due italiani e due stranieri, per un periodo di quattro mesi, lavorano su un progetto.
Per la prossima residenza, agosto-novembre 2012, la giuria composta da Chiara Parisi, Direttrice programmi culturali La Monnaie, Parigi; Alessandro Rabottini, curator at large GAMec – Galleria d’Arte Contemporanea di Bergamo; Bartolomeo Pietromarchi, Direttore MACRO; Maria Alicata, Comitato Culturale MACRO, ha eletto vincitori del bando di concorso internazionale per il programma Artisti in residenza Julieta Aranda (Messico1973. Vive e lavora fra Berlino e New York); Iwa K (Iraq 1975. Vive e lavora a Berlino); Francesca Grilli (Bologna 1976. Vive e lavora ad Amsterdam); Giovanni Giaretta (Padova 1983, vive e lavora a Venezia).
Per la residenza febbraio-maggio 2013 sono stati selezionati gli artisti Katarina Seda (Repubblica Ceca 1977. Vive e lavora a Brno); Brian Bress (USA 1975. Vive e lavora a Los Angeles); Luca Trevisani (Verona 1979. Vive e lavora a Berlino); Riccardo Giacconi (San Severino Marche 1985. Vive e lavora a Poitiers, Francia).
Gli artisti in residenza (24 maggio-22 luglio 2012) Carola Bonfili, Graham Hudson, Luigi Presicce, Ishmael Randall Weeks praticano linguaggi differenti, distanti tra loro e rivolti nello stesso tempo a dialogare con la sensorialità di un territorio.
Carola Bonfili durante la residenza ha collaborato con Valerio Mannucci, responsabile editoriale di Nero, su un progetto incentrato sul disegno. Nello studio ha presentato un’installazione che rammenta “Dialogo nel buio”(2005) e sottopone alla forte esperienza di un percorso nell’assoluta oscurità, nell’esclusivo rapporto con la sensazione della propria fisicità tra le altre sconosciute.
Graham Hudson ha costruito all’interno del suo studio uno studio altro che accoglie, cataloga, dispone materiali raccolti nelle città che analizza e in cui è racchiuso un sistema di fragilità e insicurezza che connota alcuni aspetti della contemporaneità. L’artista indaga concretamente il panorama urbano su cui trasferisce il metodo analitico dell’arte. In tal modo si apre uno scenario tangibile del rapporto arte/scienza. Anche Ishmael Randall Weeks lavora sulla concretezza dell’osservazione con il progetto Parquet. La sua attenzione è rivolta allo spazio quotidiano costituito dai paesaggi, dalle architetture, dal degrado, da ciò che va in decadenza per disparate cause. L’artista con un lavoro anche di manualità entra nella parte del mondo marginale e lo ricicla catturandone l’estetica e una legge per capovolgere i valori.
Il senso estremo dell’arte, dell’analisi è rivolto da Luigi Presicce a cogliere le simbologie e le gestualità racchiuse in alcune storie o in alcuni segni. L’artista compie due azioni particolari. Pone la visione l’opera (la performance) nella dimensione della ritualità: possono esservi solo due spettatori, anche secondo un pensiero di relazione umana alla Grotowski; le simbologie sono elaborate secondo un linguaggio che evoca il viaggio interno alla ricerca dell’essenza segnica.
L’aspetto importante da sottolineare è che per il progetto Artisti in residenza, i quattro artisti hanno invitato altri artisti con cui hanno creato gruppo, superando anche la centralità della propria persona.
Sono il segno di un’integrazione tra arte e territorio, dove il concetto di arte sociale si carica di vita vibrante. Il Macro diviene il contenitore di realtà e non di opere!!!
Bellissima in tal senso l’opera di Bros, Sten e Lex. Gli Street Artists intervengono sulla terrazza del Museo e sulla fontana della terrazza che sovrasta l’auditorium del Museo. Lo Steet artist milanese Bros, in collaborazione con la Galleria Edieuropa di Roma e la Fondazione Studio Fabio Mauri, Associazione per l’Arte L’Esperimento del Mondo ha realizzato un collage particolare con pellicole traslucide rappresentando su ampia scala l’uragano “Andrea”, che dall’auditorium viene visto con la sacralità e la bellezza dei vetri policromi.
