CLEVELAND The prehistoric motherland of Project 59, city of Cleveland, lies 59 miles west of the Ohio border with Pennsylvania. The video “MetLife” (climbing 59 floors) was first screened in Cleveland in 1995 during The Cleveland International Performance Art Festival that also welcomed and realized next year a Route 59 performance: 59 passengers (including a team of cardboard football players #59) in bus number 59, traveled at 59 km/hr from Ravenna to Akron, along Ohio Route 59. Elevation of the Lake Erie shore is 569 feet and Cleveland’s official elevation is 653 feet leaves elevation in many places around Cleveland 590-599 feet. Industrial Cleveland peaked in 1959. When Clevelander Lena Lidsky was asked (while driving from airport) how number 59 may be significant for Cleveland, “59 inches of snow” – was her answer. It was funny but not for long. The City Drawing performance, originally planed for the next day (01.08.10), was canceled due to heavy snow storm. Ground was covered with 59 cm of snow. 59 inches long ice cone was hanging from a roof.
