CAESAR AND CLEOPATRA. THE DATE THAT MADE HISTORY
A storytelling performance in English by and with Paola Balbi and Davide Bardi.
Original music by Roberta Montisci

To celebrate the 2056th death anniversary of Caesar, on Thursday 15th of March 2012 the Company of Storytelling Raccontamiunastoria presents the performance “The Eagle and the Snake. Caesar and Cleopatra. The date that made history” promoted by Roma Capitale, Assessorato alle Politiche Culturali e Centro storico – Sovraintendenza ai Beni Culturali, sponsored by Acqua Egeria – Acqua Santa di Roma.

The show, by and with Paola Balbi and Davide Bardi, with original music played live by Roberta Montisci, will be performed at the Grande Aula in the Mercati di Traiano Museo dei Fori Imperiali at 7.15 pm in English and 9.00 pm in Italian.

The Eagle and the Snake – Caesar and Cleopatra, the most famous story from ancient Rome told as never told before. From lips to ears, mind-to-mind and heart to heart, the audience will feel as if the story is pouring through the voice of its protagonists. “The Eagle and the Snake“ is a performance delivered with all the utter simplicity and evocative power of pure oral storytelling. Two different lives, both doomed to great power and glory, cross each other and share for a while the same road, two different rivers flow for a short time “in the same bed”, changing their own stories and history forever. In a passionate and disenchanted retelling, Caesar and Cleopatra, conjured up from the past, will appear before the eyes of a contemporary audience. This is a story which is a lesson on strategy, a meditation on power, a metaphor of the relationship between maturity and youthfulness. Most of all it is a story about true love that, for a brief time, defeats hatred, prejudice and war.
