Mallarmé compared the written word to the power of a starry sky, thereby opening up the possibility of a communion between light and poetry, this becoming the aura of craftsmanship, elaborated by man’s rituality around the luminous sign.

It is from personal experience, ‘enlightened’ by history, that the project of the exhibition ‘The Light and the Poet’ originated, through the creative – ritualistic meeting of artists Andrea Santarlasci and Soon Yul Kang: it is a conscious dialogue between the twentieth century of the West and the rituality of the East, lived as an aesthetic possibility faced with the inexpressible, contained in the manifestation of light and its writing. The distance between the borderlines of these two ways of expression is the space-time in which light organises its creative tension.

According to Soon Yul Kang, writing is a moment of poetic and dramatic standstill, where something empties itself of its subjectivity, to acquire a rhythm which goes immeasurably beyond its own boundaries. The ritual repetition of words marks the historical path that humankind has to travel through day in and day out, to gain steady interior mobility as in a Zen meditation.

Andrea Santarlasci transcends the insoluble relationship between being and appearing through the language of shadow, exalted by light. Shadow is the immaterial beyond light; it is the constant manifestation on the other side of the cone of light, as seen in the relationship between knowledge and its inexhaustible conquest. According to the artist, the poetry of shadow represents the eternal flight of light, which gives ephemeral apparitions of essential phenomenologies, as in the Eastern tradition of the shadow theatre, or in the Western tradition, which considers them miraculous. The movement of the sign, exalted by the installation in the ‘La Nuova Pesa’ Art Gallery, is like poetry freeing itself in space, going beyond a visual project. The loss of the relationship between the object and its shadow pushes imagination towards the threshold of research and inner memory in a profound relationship with itself.

Both projects, through different paths, are reflections on the ethereal origin of the symbol, which transmigrates from the elusive world of ideas to the terrestrial realm, finding its harbour and its boundaries on the thresholds of white and light; they also reflect on its trans-cultural value, which crosses the histories of all countries with different configurations and conveys systems which are in a constant state of change and mutation.

Mallarmé aveva paragonato la pagina scritta alla potenza del cielo stellato, aprendo la possibilità di comunione tra luce e poesia, che diviene l’aura artigianale, elaborata dalla ritualità dell’uomo, attorno al segno luminoso. L’esperienza personale ‘illuminata’ dalla storia è all’origine del progetto espositivo La luce e il poeta e dell’incontro creativo-rituale tra gli artisti Andrea Santarlasci e Soon Yul Kang, secondo un percorso consapevole del Novecento Occidentale in dialogo con la ritualità dell’Oriente vissuta come possibilità estetica di fronte all’inesprimibile racchiuso nell’apparizione della luce e della sua scrittura. La distanza che intercorre tra le due frontiere espressive è il segmento spazio-temporale in cui la luce organizza la propria tensione creativa.

Soon Yul Kang, la scrittura è il momento di arresto poetico e tragico di qualcosa che si svuota di soggettività per acquisire un ritmo che travalica, in modo non misurabile, i suoi confini. La parola ripetuta ritualmente segna il cammino storico che l’uomo deve percorrere quotidianamente, per conquistare la ferma mobilità interiore, come in una meditazione zen.

Andrea Santarlasci supera nel linguaggio dell’ombra l’insolubile e accettato rapporto tra l’essere e l’apparire, esaltato dalla luce. L’ombra è l’oltre immateriale della luce; è la costante apparizione aldilà del cono di luce come nel rapporto tra conoscenza e sua inesauribile conquista. Per l’artista la scrittura poetica dell’ombra è nella fuga perenne della luce che dona rivelazioni effimere di fenomenologie essenziali, come nella tradizione orientale del teatro delle ombre o in quella occidentale che le considera miracolose. Il movimento del segno, esaltato nell’installazione presso la galleria La Nuova Pesa, è come una scrittura poetica che si libera nello spazio andando oltre una programmazione visiva. La perdita del rapporto tra oggetto e sua ombra sospinge l’immaginazione sulla soglia della ricerca e della memoria interiore, in un rapporto profondo con il sé.

I due progetti espositivi, con differenti percorsi, sono la riflessione sull’origine eterea del segno, che trasmigra dal corpo inafferrabile delle idee verso l’espressività terrestre, trovando il suo approdo e il suo confine sulle soglie del bianco e della luce; sul suo valore trans –culturale, che attraversa la storia di tutti i paesi con differenti configurazioni e veicola sistemi in continua mutazione.
