The fourth edition of sculpture network’s New Year’s Brunch, takes place on the 20^th of January 2013. Sculpture enthusiasts meet at over 40 locations in 13 countries – in person and virtually through video-live stream. As a participating host at the above address, we invite you and all art lovers to be our guest, at this unique European event.

”Desiderium – De Sideribus – Desire”

Il termine  latino desiderium  proviene da de sideribus, dalle stelle. Per desiderio quindi si deve intendere “mancanza delle stelle, del cielo“, e quindi lo struggimento che nasce da questo senso di carenza, dall’impossibilità di “afferrare” le stelle. L’opposto del termine “considerare”, che significa invece “contemplare” le stelle, vederle tutte insieme.
Illuminante in tal senso una pagina del De Bello Gallico, nella quale Cesare definisce “desiderantes” i soldati che stavano sotto le stelle ad aspettare chi non era tornato dopo la battaglia. Il verbo desiderare ha origine proprio in questo gesto, in questa condizione dell’anima: nel porsi sotto gli astri ed attendere. E sentire, alla luce delle stelle, la mancanza di un amico, di un amore o di qualcuno o qualcosa che procuri sollievo, o dia addirittura senso alla propria esistenza (Antonio Monda, scrittore, docente universitario).
“La cosa importante non è il desiderio di qualcosa, ma il rapporto e la trasformazione di sé che si opera per via del desiderio” (Manuela Fraire, psicoanalista).
“Il desiderio non ha l’ultima parola , non è l’ultima parola, perchè dentro di sé trasporta il suo oltre, lo dice la sua illimitatezza” (Luisa Muraro).

Celebrating three-dimensional art is the European event’s main focus. Art studios, galleries, private collectors, cultural institutions, art academies, foundries etc. welcome guests to enjoy sculpture, in an open networking opportunity.

nyb’13 will be hosted in Austria, Denmark, Egypt, France, Germany, Italy, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Great Britain, Poland, Switzerland and the Netherlands. Each venue carries out a personalised program ranging from “meet the artists”, lectures, discussions, guided tours, studio visits, public casting and much more – in addition to toasting the New Year.

Venues will connect via video-live stream, at 11:00 (CET) creating one huge European gathering around sculpture. From local to international and beyond spatial boundaries, sculpture network’s links become tangible.

As in former years, the event is organised by the non-profit European association sculpture network. Initiated in 2004 in Germany, with the aim of enhancing public perception and acceptance of three-dimensional art, while encouraging interdisciplinary dialogue, the organisation currently has, approximately, 1000 members, in 43 countries. Members include artists, art professionals, art organisations, collectors and friends of the arts.
