The Berliner artist Jonathan Meese is back on display at Templon’s Gallery in Paris after two years of absence. Jonathan Meese’s anarchic and expressive mark established himself in the international spotlight with a Nietzschean relationship among his artworks of marks, mythologies and his look. His works transmit  the synergy between his art language and his outward appearance. His work is his symbol, his being: that’s the origin of paints, sculptures, performances, comfort of an even larger expressive and radical planning quality. It is interesting in such a sense the interview given at “Il Giardino dei Lauri” during Fantomassoz exhibition in 2010 where the artist outlines a dictatorial pathway which he appreciates, which he demands to belong to. Meese is interested in the sun and water power, in the art that has conquered the time, in the man and his languages. By  some site-specific works inside the church of Santa Maria dei Servi at Città della Pieve, the artist fits into the sacred art cycle and he offers himself as a repository “other and beside” through his sculptures that are interpreters of the esoteric sense of the worship. Jonathan Meese language  ranks beyond the experience of  New York and Paris neo-avant-garde pop culture; he seeks the concept of identity, tempering the dark Romanticism of “Die Brucke” into the chromatic brightness  of the handwritings, in the freedom of marks that conjugate the Gothic sense of the time. The artist is considered  an important figure in the history of contemporary art for the expressive energy,  for the physicality of the visionary force  that models the matter and master the space. He’s been invited  in several exhibitions, among the others Essl Museum; De Appel Museum Amsterdam; Le Magasin Grenoble; Deichtorhallen Hambourg. He realized unforgettable performances: Tate Modern in London 2005, with Peter Doig; at Marfa,Texas during 2006 and with Matthew Barney at New York during 2007. It is dated 2004 the Meese collaboration with the Berliner historical theatre Volksbuhne by the preparation of sceneries and costumes for some productions of Director Mr. Frank Castorf. Again during 2007 presents the Berlin performance De Frau.

For the exhibition St. Neutralité at Templon’s Gallery, the artist enlarges the display within the two premises of the gallery: In Rue Beaubourg presents the paints of great dimensions and in Impasse Beaubourg the sculptures and the installations. Each work elaborates the redundancy of a concept or of a theme, till the excess of media sidelines the same concept quoted by the title. The paintings present spirals in background with free brushworks, flaming and tender that alternate delicate chromatism to bright colours. Jonathan Meese heightens the capabilities of his mark to the limit of the representation giving expression to an ability of reading  and of association within unexpected elements and icons: a kind of independent primitivism, asserting in his power  the centrality of  his creative passion.

The Templon’s Gallery has been working with Jonathan Meese from 2001 on and together have realized four exhibitions.

Dopo due anni di assenza l’artista berlinese Jonathan Meese ritorna ad esporre nella galleria Templon di Parigi. Il segno anarchico ed espressivo di Jonathan Meese si è imposto all’attenzione internazionale con una corrispondenza nietzschiana tra le sue iconografie di segni, di mitologie e del suo look. Le opere comunicano la sinergia tra linguaggio delle opere e il modo di presentarsi. La sua immagine, il suo essere è l’opera: da ciò derivano dipinti, sculture, performance, rifugio di una progettualità espressiva radicale e sempre più vasta. Interessante in tal senso è stata l’intervista durante l’esposizione Fantomassoz nel 2010 nella sede de Il Giardino dei Lauri in cui l’artista traccia un percorso dittatoriale, che ammira, di cui desidera far parte. Meese è interessato al potere del sole, dell’acqua, dell’arte che ha sconfitto il tempo, l’uomo e le lingue. Con interventi site specific all’interno della chiesa di Santa Maria dei Servi, in Città della Pieve, l’artista si inserisce nel ciclo delle opere sacre e si propone come depositario ‘altro e accanto’ con sculture interpreti del senso esoterico della religione. Il linguaggio di Jonathan Meese si colloca oltre l’esperienza della cultura pop delle neoavanguardie di New York e Parigi; persegue un concetto di identità, stemperando il cupo romanticismo della Die Brücke nelle vivacità cromatiche delle grafie, nella libertà dei segni, che coniugano il senso gotico del tempo.  L’artista è considerato una figura rilevante nella storia dell’arte contemporanea per l’energia espressiva, per la fisicità della forza visionaria, che plasma la materia e domina lo spazio. E’ stato invitato in numerose esposizioni, tra cui a Essl Museum; in De Appel Museum in  Amsterdam ; in Le Magasin di Grenoble; in Deichtorhallen di Hambourg. Ha realizzato  performance memorabili tra cui quella della Tate Modern di Londra nel 2005, con Peter Doig a Marfa in Texas nel 2006 e con Matthew Barney à New York nel 2007. Dal 2004 Jonathan Meese inizia la collaborazione con lo storico teatro Volksbühne di Berlino, preparando scenografie e costumi per alcune produzioni del direttore Frank Castorf.  Nel 2007 presenta ancora a Berlino lo spettacolo teatrale De Frau.

Per la mostra St. Neutralité alla Galleria Templon, l’artista estende l’esposizione nelle due sedi della galleria: nello spazio in Rue Baubourg  presenta dipinti di grandi dimensioni e in Impasse Beaubourg installazioni e sculture. Ogni opera sviluppa la ridondanza di un concetto o di un tema, finché l’eccesso dei media emargina il concetto medesimo richiamato dal titolo. Le tele presentano campiture di spirali con pennellate libere, con   violenti e teneri che alternano cromatismi delicati a colori forti. Jonathan Meese eleva le potenzialità del suo segno al limite della rappresentazione esprimendo una capacità di lettura e di associazione tra elementi e icone inattese: una sorta di primitivismo indipendente, che la centralità nel furor creativo della sua energia.

Dal 2001 la Galleria Templon lavora con Jonathan Meese con cui ha realizzato quattro mostre.
