In/Outside of me | Mikayel Ohanjanyan

Opened on 26^th October at SpazioBlue the first exhibition of artist Mikayel Ohanjanyan in Bologna: IN/OUTSIDE OF ME. SpazioBlue is a cultural project with space annex focusing the attention on the new generation of contemporary art. Considered a place of research, the staff composed of young curators and critics see their mission in exploring the new cultural tendencies of national and international panorama. With this exhibition the door was opened to the Armenian artist’s project in honour of the 50^th anniversary of Italian-Armenian cooperation.

Mikayel Ohanjanyan, winner of the Premio Targetti 2010, started his artistic career with classical studies, using traditional elements, then – with the maturation of his thoughts – turned to   research of form and new materials. The whole exhibition focuses on the concept of tension. Tension inside and outside, from right to left, exploding and imploding in search of internal agitation of our society. The game of the confrontation of the cube – an element recurring obsessively in his work – finds its expression in the clear opposition with the cords. The cords become questions in search of answers, mysteries unresolved, tight elastics, aiming at arousing curiosity, searching and communicating with apparent rigidity. A restless, strained and fast-moving society, leaving no room for doubt. The cube represents our self, the point of concentration, that centre where the eyes find their focus, becomes the character’s decisive element, changes into the discovery of an internal space, conciliatory, where to take refuge. The creative project of Ohanjanyan starts from the study of the states of mind, from our own self before exploring others, in order to then expand beyond his self.

Ha inaugurato il 26 Ottobre a SpazioBlue la prima mostra bolognese dell’artista Mikayel Ohanjanyan, IN/OUTSIDE OF ME. SpazioBlue è un progetto culturale con spazio annesso che punta il suo sguardo sulle nuove leve dell’arte contemporanea. Luogo di ricerca, la mission dello staff, composta da giovani curatori e critici, è quella di indagare le nuove tendenze culturali del panorama nazionale e internazionale. Con questa mostra ha aperto le porte al progetto dell’artista armeno per l’anniversario dei cinquant’anni del gemellaggio Italia-Armenia.

Mikayel Ohanjanyan, vincitore del Premio Targetti 2010, inizia il suo percorso dagli studi classici, utilizzando elementi tradizionali per, poi, maturare il suo pensiero verso la ricerca della forma e dei nuovi materiali. Tutta la mostra è incentrata sul concetto di tensione. Tensione dentro e fuori, da destra a sinistra, che esplode e implode cercando l’agitazione interna della nostra società. Il gioco della contrapposizione del cubo, elemento che si ripete ossessivamente, nelle sue opere, esprime la sua netta opposizione con le corde. Le corde diventano domande in cerca di risposte, enigmi irrisolti, elastici tesi, che vogliono incuriosire, ricercare e dialogare con un’apparente rigidità. Una società irrequieta, costretta e rapida che non lascia spazio al dubbio. Il cubo rappresenta noi stessi, il punto di concentramento, quello focale in cui si fissa lo sguardo, diviene l’elemento accentratore del carattere, si trasforma nella scoperta di uno spazio interiore, conciliante, in cui rifugiarci. Il progetto creativo di Ohanjanyan parte dallo studio degli stati d’animo, di se stesso, prima di indagare gli altri, per poi espandersi al di fuori di sé.
